A bill that would boost education about teen dating violence advanced in the Pennsylvania state House yesterday. The Demi Brae Cucia Law, named for a suburban Pittsburgh teen killed by her ex-boyfriend, is awaiting final approval in the House. AG WANTS EXTENSION OF PROPERTY TAX RELIEF
State Auditor General Jack Wagner has asked Governor Rendell to extend the deadline to file for property tax relief. Homeowners had until March 1st to apply for the rebate but Wagner is asking to push back that deadline to April 15th. Wagner said the state's confusing application process has kept tens-of-thousand of owners from getting the tax cut, which is funded by slots casino revenue. Though the extension has not yet been approved, Wagner is encouraging homeowners to download an application form, available online at revenue.state.pa.us.
ANOTHER OPINION ON TOLLING I-80
Everybody wants the infrastructure maintained but nobody wants to pay for it. That's Representative Joe Markosek's take concerning ongoing resistance to the tolling of Interstate 80. The Monroeville Democrat says those who oppose tolling the east-west corridor have been getting a free ride for some time. Markosek adds highway funding, enabled by Act 44, will be cut nearly in half this summer on July 1st. Lawmakers representing constituents and businesses near I-80 have lobbied against the tolling asserting it will harm economic development.

That’s Helen Boemmel (Bemmel) with from Drake Well, saying that they are sending the results of the vote to the State’s Capital because of the severe cut in funding to PA’s museums. Families are welcome to take a tour of the outside where the smell of oil and gas is all around. Visit Drakewell.org for details.
SCAMMERS SAY THEY ARE WITH THE POLICE
The Pennsylvania State Police in Puxsutawney are issuing a warning about telemarketing callers. Scammers have been recently calling and saying they are linked to law enforcement agencies like the state police, when in fact they are not. Police are state funded and do not solicit phone calls. Any such calls should be reported. End the call as soon as possible because the longer you stay on the line, the longer they have to convince you otherwise.
